HolidayLights at CALM:
Our 14th fabulous year!
The award-winning HolidayLights at CALM is back for its fourteenth year. This year, the zoo will be lit with more than three million lights and more than 75 displays. Last spring, HolidayLights at CALM was voted Best Annual Event in The Bakersfield Californian’s Reader’s Poll. Over the years, sponsorship and ticket purchases have helped with numerous zoo improvements.
The gates for HolidayLights at CALM will be open 5:30-8:30 p.m. and will run November 25 through December 31. The event is closed Christmas.
Admission prices are adults-$12; seniors (60+)-$10; youth (13-17 years)-$10; children (3-12 years) $6; and children under three years are free.
Other than paid admissions, only HolidayLights coupons, discounts and passes will be accepted. CALM members will receive a 50 percent discount for those listed on their card. Groups of 20 or more will receive the group rate of $2 off each ticket purchased. Parking is free.
Discounts for tickets purchased Monday through Thursday will again be offered November 28-December 9. Each ticket category will be $2 off; however, tickets cannot be pre-sold (for these evenings) and must be purchased at the gate.
The show, presented by CALM and the CALM Foundation, will add new displays: entry arch, rain falling in the rain forest, renovation of several displays and a new show in the amphitheater; however, favorites such as the ocean display, Winter Wonderland, Dinosaur Land and the Dancing Trees are returning crowd pleasers.
This event is much more than lights! Look for the Candy Cane Express to be chugging along the railroad tracks. The 40-foot Merry-Go-Round will also be returning for young and old to ride, and like the train, it is absolutely free. CALM’s newly renovated Gift Store features nature-related merchandise that has something for everyone including holiday items.
Food service will be provided by Teen Challenge; however you are also welcome to bring your own treats and picnic amongst the lights.
Your company, organization or family can reserve the Teen Challenge catering tent for a private party. You will be able to choose from a gourmet dinner to light hors d’oeuvres. Teen Challenge has extensive catering experience to meet any menu requests. Reservations include your catered event and admission to HolidayLights at CALM. Make your reservations today by contacting Christie Luna, with Teen Challenge, at 661-477-2901.
The success of this event is made possible through the dedicated work of the HolidayLights committee and the outpouring of volunteer effort from this community. During HolidayLights, thirty volunteers are needed each night, from 5-10 p.m. Volunteers must be at least 17 years old. If you are interested in volunteering, call Lana Fain at 661-871-1822.
The CALM Foundation is actively seeking sponsors for each of the beautiful light displays. To date, sponsorship opportunities are available and range from $1,000 to $10,000. Sponsorship has outstanding promotional benefits including recognition (your name or business will be seen by thousands of people) and guest passes to the event. For sponsorship information, contact Steve Sanders at 661-636-4262.
During HolidayLights, a few animals will be on exhibit and the reptile house will be open for viewing.
Tickets are available any Vallitix outlet (661-322-5200 or www.vallitix.com). Tickets will be available at CALM by mid-November.
