Choo-Choo Boo at CALM Zoo
By Darren Redstone
All aboard! Toot-toot!
Out of the station with a clickety-clack,
a train full of youngsters is a head’in down the track.
Twas the middle of October, a tad chilly too,
the best time of all for Boo at the Zoo!
Who’s that critter with a hat black as pitch?
Why, it’s Elvira the dinosaur dressed up as a witch!
There upon Triceratops sits something rather odd—
a white and knobby skeleton giving us a nod.
Chug, chug, chug,
we wonder if there’s more spooky stuff,
while onward we go to Buzzard’s Bluff.
Yonder are some old tombstones,
among them are a bunch of bones!
Bony, bony, bony bones with nothing in between—
they’ve invaded Buzzard’s Bluff, a prelude to Halloween.
Bouncy-jouncy skeletons have come to spook and scare,
greeted by the famous ghost in the rocking chair.
The train rolls into the western town, all decked in autumn flair,
we see the skeletons are causing mischief everywhere!
They’re rattling their bones around the lonesome jail
and making quite a spectacle outside the Rusty Rail.
The safe outside the bank is a heavy one of tin.
Behind a detonator box stands a greedy skeleton!
For the golden treasure does he hunger.
Look out! His bony fingers are on the plunger!
See them cavort, see them careen,
at the Undertaker’s Parlor, they’re making such a scene!
They’re climbing the rafters all over the place—
such bad behavior is such a disgrace!
Clickety-clack, the train moves ahead
to a little schoolhouse painted red.
The schoolhouse swings are swaying in the cool autumn breeze,
while skeletons are kicking up their bony little knees.
Breezing by an outhouse, we find it occupied,
by a tall bony skeleton who has swung the door aside.
Past the Painted Desert and the mighty River Kern,
our train begins its journey back—but will the skeletons return?
Clickety-clack, down the track,
what’s that noise? It’s not quack-quack!
A husky bark is what we hear—
a skeleton dog! Have we to fear?
Just beyond a dusty hill,
some skeletons are climbing up a water mill.
Chased by the canine, all bones and no tail,
the skeletons are trapped, and unable to wail.
Around the bend, the train whistle blows.
Four times it blows before it slows.
The station bell begins to ring,
Good-bye skeletons! We all sing.
Twas so much fun to see your folly,
it made our train ride oh so jolly!
Now it’s time for adventures new—
There’s nothing quite like Boo! at the Zoo!
