Wolf Ridge
An elongated habitat will give visitors the opportunity to see a wolf pack moving through a wooded environment and displaying natural behaviors.
Master Plan
Expanding CALM Zoo with immersive habitats, modern animal-care spaces, and new ways to experience native wildlife.
Phase 2
The West Expansion represents a major new land-use area extending beyond CALM Zoo’s existing developed campus.
The plan emphasizes modern zoological habitats, animal welfare, rotational and activity-based spaces, and immersive landscapes that complement CALM’s natural surroundings and mission.
West Expansion Overview
The West Expansion introduces new habitat types designed around natural behaviors, animal choice, visitor immersion, and the landscape of the CALM Zoo site.
An elongated habitat will give visitors the opportunity to see a wolf pack moving through a wooded environment and displaying natural behaviors.
An expansive new bear zone will provide immersive, enriching habitat space with the flexibility to accommodate both brown and black bears.
Large aviaries positioned along the site’s bluffs will provide space for raptors and California condors to fly while creating elevated viewing opportunities for visitors.
A tunnel beneath the bear habitat will create a cooler underground experience for visitors while providing appropriate environments for animals requiring greater temperature and light control.
Conceptual Plan
The conceptual plan illustrates how large animal habitats, aviaries, underground experiences, and visitor circulation can work together across the western expansion area.
Future Wildlife
The West Expansion creates opportunities for new and expanded habitats designed around the needs and natural behaviors of native wildlife.
Planned Habitat: Bear Flex Habitats
Planned Habitat: Wolf Ridge
Planned Habitat: Cave Systems
